What is recorded here
Cairn is an unclassified oval mound in County Kerry, Ireland, sitting on a south-facing slope above the Sheen River valley. Grass and peat have claimed much of its stone frame, yet basal rocks still protrude beside a possible revetment and two neighbouring cairns. It may have marked a boundary, remembered a death, or simply gathered stones from the pasture; the landscape kept that choice hidden.
In rough pasture, on a S-facing slope overlooking the valley of the Sheen River to the SW and W. A partly grass-covered oval cairn (5.4m N-S; 3.2m E-W; H 0.4m) of stones with basal stones protruding from the peat. A possible revetment is evident NE-SW. A cairn (KE093-097004-) lies c. 40m to the SSE and another cairn (KE093-097005-) is c. 50m to the SE. A relict field boundary (KE093-097001-) is in the immediate vicinity.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
