Burnt spread in Gortlahard (glanarought By., Cappagh Ed)

In rough pasture, on a S-facing slope overlooking the valley of the Sheen River. A horizon (T 0.5m; L 6.2m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil is exposed in the face of a scarped bank beside a farm road. The burnt material is just below the sod layer of a low mound (c. 2m SW-NE). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
