What is recorded here
Perhaps a thirsty walker stopped at Butler Memorial Fountain in Waterville and read James Butler's name while taking a drink. The neighbours who honoured him gave the walker something useful as well as something to think about on the way home.
Freestanding cut-limestone Celtic Cross style memorial and fountain, dated 1887, on a limestone ashlar base with inscribed plaque. Attributed to J.F. Fuller. Cut-stone plaque inscribed: "Erected in memory of James Butler of Waterville by the neighbours and friends who honoured and loved him MDCCCLXXXVII".
