Burnt spread in Garranes (glanarought By., Ardea Ed)

In pasture, on the SW-facing slope of Knockanoughanish, to the S of the Kenmare-Lauragh road. A layer (L 6.5m; D 0.45m at centre) of burnt material is visible beneath blanket bog (D 0.65m) in the NW face of a V-shaped drain (on a NE-SW axis) and along its base. The depth of the layer decreases from the centre towards the NE and SW ends. A stream flows to the SW in the drain. According to local information, the burnt material was exposed during field drainage work. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
