Located in a broad col with Vinegar Hill c. 900m to the WSW and a lower hill c. 750m to the ENE. Archaeological testing (06E1184) around the enclosure (WX020-033001-) produced evidence of a burnt mound (diam. c. 3m) c. 130m ESE of the enclosure. (McLoughlin 2007, 4-5). Burnt mound in Clonhasten is a Bronze Age ritual or domestic feature, characterized by a mound of heat-shattered stones. Its significance lies in providing evidence of early land use and possible ceremonial activity in the region.
