Burnt mound in Brownswood

Located towards the bottom of a NE-facing slope above a shelf that overlooks the NW-SE River Suir. A spread of broken and burnt stone (dims. 13.5m x 9.7m) was found during the laying of a Bord Gáis pipeline, but most of the mound may lie outside the pipeline corridor to the W. (M. A Bronze Age burnt mound; its function remains debated but may relate to ritual activity or heat-treated stone use. Significance lies in its association with early domestic or ceremonial practices in the River Suir valley.
