Located in pasture on a gentle S-facing slope of a slight N-S spur. There is local information regarding three areas of broken and burnt stone visible in ploughed fields c. 20m S of rath (WA026-023001-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Burnt mound in Ballyscanlan is a Bronze Age ritual or industrial site, characterised by heat-shattered stones and associated with hearths or pits. Its proximity to a rath suggests possible ceremonial or domestic activity in a prehistoric settlement landscape.
