Burial mound in Jamestown

In rough pasture, to the NW of a conifer plantation, on slight E-facing slope of Caher Hill. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a raised circular-shaped area, defined by a scarp. Not marked on subsequent editions of the OSi maps. Surveyed in 1999 and described as a poorly preserved oval-shaped scrub-covered mound (dims. 8m N-S; 10m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 0.15m) with fosse from E-S-SW (Overall Wth 7.3m; base Wth 2m; int. D 1.5m; ext. D 0.2m). No surface remains visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimages. A Neolithic burial mound, likely dating to the 4th–3rd millennium BCE. Its depiction on the 1840 Ordnance Survey map suggests early recognition of its archaeological significance, though subsequent neglect may indicate disturbance or lack of detailed study.
