Clonmacnowen By. - Ballinasloe, May 1968: ESB workers dug a trench on the western side of Society Street and struck a single human burial half a metre below the surface. The bones belonged to nobody living, perhaps somebody long forgotten by the town itself. They were reported, not taken, not studied, not named. The trench was filled, the street continued, and the dead person disappeared again into the ordinary ground of Ballinasloe.

In May 1968 human remains were discovered by ESB workers while digging a tench on the western side of Society Street, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. A single inhumation was discovered at a depth of 0.75m below ground level. The site was reported to the NMI. The site was not investigated and the human remains were not acquired. No further information is available on the burial (pers. comm. M. Cahill and M. Sikora NMI).
