Burial in Kilconnaught

Burial

What is recorded here

Kilconnaught holds a buried life suspended between knowledge and oblivion. A skeleton lay extended with its head pointing north, barely five metres from a settlement site when men uncovered it in January 1939. The bones emerged without warning, likely during ordinary work near the place where that person once lived. They knew neither the name of the dead nor the shape of the last breath taken there.
Extended skeleton with head to N, uncovered c. 5m from settlement site (CW004-059002-) in January 1939. No further information. (Cahill and Sikora 2011, Vol. 2, 462). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 16 July 2012 Revised by: Claire Breen
