Burial in Fahamore

Burial

What is recorded here

Burial in Fahamore stands at the tip of the Magharees Peninsula, where ploughing broke open graves built with sides and covered by large slabs. One chamber held a rather large skeleton, suggesting a person of unusual size or importance. The discovery turned ordinary farm soil into a threshold between living memory and forgotten depth.
A number of graves were discovered while ploughing a field here near the tip of the Magharees Peninsula. They were described as having built sides and being covered by large slabs (local information). One contained a 'rather large skeleton' (CKFC 1951). The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 202. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 4 August 2013
