What is recorded here

Eight graves sat behind a timber railing while six more lay outside, a crowded oval of forgotten famine dead now hidden beneath ordinary pasture. The earth keeps its own count, pressing bodies into darkness long before surveyors drew broken lines around the place. What the railing excluded may have been desperation rather than design, forcing the hungry into a smaller circle while the forgotten spilled beyond.

According to local information, famine burial ground where timber railing enclosed eight graves with a further six burials outside. Bowman (1934, 502) recorded six famine graves.
