Three flagstones mark sailor graves on Turk Island, where cholera took a Turkish crew before the Famine. Ferns and gorse still choke the small island, hiding the marks beneath green fire. The sea brought them to death and the earth kept them without ceremony.

On Turk Island, on the E side of the entrance to Laurence's Cove on the N side of Bear Island. This small island is densely covered with ferns and gorse. O'Sullivan (1992, 56) recorded that in pre-Famine times, sailors from a Turkish ship, on which there was an outbreak of cholera, died and were buried on this island.
