Burial ground in Meenagrauv (stranorlar Ed)

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Emonation is not a name or a memory. It is the living edge of a known place, the age-old boundary where human life still touches the world.
The E half of an originally circular area (DG068-012001-) enclosed by a collapsed stone wall rebuilt in places up to 1m high. The W half is indicated by a semi-circular scatter of stones. The interior is uneven with clusters of stones resulting from its use as a burial ground. It is situated on a S-facing gentle slope in very wet rushy pasture. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
