Kernanstown's buried dead waited beneath ordinary soil until school foundations broke through in 1981. Human bones, a narrow fosse and a patch of charcoal appeared together, suggesting a forgotten place where life, loss and fire had all left their marks. The ground had already been disturbed before anyone recorded it, but the children's new building brought its hidden story briefly into the light.
