Burial ground in Astagob (castleknock By., Castleknock Ed)

A flat cemetery was discovered in 1959 with evidence for 7 -8 human skeletons running E-W and N-S including a possible infant. One of the burials may have been slab-lined, another in a crouched position. These were unaccompanied remains (NMI Topographical files, Cahill & Sikora 2011, 467). Now located within playing pitches which have been lowered and levelled relative to the surrounding topography. A prehistoric burial ground, likely dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age, based on the orientation and positioning of the burials. Its significance lies in providing evidence of early funerary practices and settlement in the Castleknock area.
