Burial Ground (Disused)

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Death preceded memory at this abandoned ringfort. The 1842 survey marked a burial ground, yet no stones remain to name the dead. Forgetfulness has reclaimed the field, leaving behind a hollow where identity once stood.
In ringfort (CO128-010001-). Marked 'Burial Ground' on OS 6-inch map (1842). No gravemarkers noted. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
