Bully's Acre

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Bully's Acre in Kilmainham held over two hundred thousand graves before closing in 1832, yet thousands still danced through the headstones on feast days until cholera stopped the fun. When General Dilkes tried to pave the dead into a botanic garden around 1760, the men of the Liberties fought the hospital soldiers and broke his wall. The acre resists forgetting: it is a place where the living kept claiming back what power tried to erase.
Bully's Acre is a graveyard in County Dublin, Ireland.
