Stonybatter graveyard has held dead since 1704, mostly British soldiers, until Croppies Acre gave rebel flesh its own ground. War kept returning there, changing the count but never emptying the soil. Dublin buried its enemies and its heroes side by side, forcing both claims to share one dark stretch of earth.
The graveyard in Arbour Hill, Stonybatter dates from (1704-1920s). The majority of the graves are for British military personnel. The plot known as 'Croppies Acre' is part of this burial ground.
A 18th to early 20th-century military graveyard; significant as the site of 'Croppies Acre,' associated with Irish revolutionary history.
