Bullaun stone in Saintkierans

There is a granite bullaun stone (dims 0.84m x 0.62m; H 0.55m) with a single oval basin (dims 0.5m x 0.28m; D 0.16m) within the church of Saintkierans (WX045-030001-). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 23 July, 2013

Likely dating to the early Christian period (5th–9th centuries AD), the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purification or as a baptistry. Such stones are often associated with monastic sites and may also have earlier pagan or prehistoric functions, reflecting continuity of sacred landscape use.
