What is recorded here

Earthfast at the SW corner of a church (RO016-097001-). A square sandstone block (dims 0.8m x 0.8m; H 0.4-0.5m) has a central oval depression (dims 0.38m E-W; 0.32m N-S; D 0.14-0.18m). A hole (diam. 0.12m) in this stone allows visual confirmation of a second depression on the underside of the block. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
Likely dating to the early Christian period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water or as a site for pilgrimages. Such stones often feature in local folklore as places of spiritual significance or healing.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
