Bullaun stone in Cloon West

Lying on the surface of Leacht KE079-020002- are two bullauns. The first (KE082-020003-) of these irregular boulders measures .45m x .4m; its upper surface has a circular depression, .32m in diameter and .1m deep. The above description is derived from A. Likely dating to the early Christian period, bullaun stones were traditionally used for hollowing out to hold holy water or for ritual purposes. They are often associated with local folklore and may be linked to early monastic or pilgrimage sites.
