Cloghan holds an unmarked bullaun stone where a saint's footprint catches rainwater that never drains. Local tradition claims the water cures warts, turning a forgotten rock into a small medical chest for village children. The boy who dips his fingers there may not believe in saints, but he believes in the strange obedience of water and the temporary disappearance of skin marks.

Unlocated bullaun stone within the townland of Cloghan that is mentioned in the schools manuscript (Folklore Commission) which states that 'there is a mass rock with the foot print of a saint on it, water lies on the rock always no matter--The water that lies on this rock is a cure for warts' (Stout Anco Survey 1984-5). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
