What is recorded here

Bullaun stones mark where monks knelt until prayer wore flesh into rock. This one stands in the west quadrant of the Ballycook graveyard beside Kinneigh Church, still carrying that single worn hollow. It is not a grand monument, but a small record of repeated devotion, patience and bodily effort.

Likely dating to the early Christian period, bullaun stones were often used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water or as pilgrimage sites. They may also have had pre-Christian significance, associated with healing or sacred wells.
