Building in Ladyswell

An excavation in 2000 at Ladyswell revealed a medieval building c. 250m N of the medieval town of Cashel (TS061-025----) (O'Brien 2002, 314). Two walls of the building, at right angles to each other, and an internal floor surface was revealed (ibid.). Sealed between this floor level and later structural collapse was a portion of a medieval strap handle, animal bones and six roof nails (ibid.). Based on the ceramic evidence a terminus post quem in the 14th-15th centuries could be suggested for the final phase of the building (ibid.). A well/sump feature also uncovered may have been contemporaneous with the building though the upper fills were very disturbed (ibid.). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 31 July 2014
