Building in Fraine

Situated on a gentle E-facing slope. According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) Edward Scurlock of Frane in Athboy parish owned 312 acres there in 1640 and the property included ‘two waste castles and a hall and a quarry, and some cottages’ (Simington 1940, 209). He also owned 225 acres in Drissoge and 228 acres in Dirlangan in the same parish (ibid. 212). The hall could be this structure located just 5m E of the tower house (ME029-017----). It consists of the outline of a building (ext. dims 21.8m E-W; 9.5m N-S) defined by grass-covered wall footings. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 28 February 2019
