Bridge in Quin

The earliest reference to a bridge at Quin is in 1579 when on ‘The 5th November 1579 at Quin, his Lordship Sir William Pelham departed from Limerick…and that night lodged at Quin, an old abbey by the river of [Rine], where is a stone bridge to pass over’ (Hull 2017, 18 citing Edwards 2014, 44-5). The precise location of this bridge is unknown but may have been c. 110m upstream of the present bridge as this would tie in with the roadway visible in the aerial photography (ITM c. 541781, 674551).
