Bridelands House

Detached three-bay two-storey Georgian house, built c.1800, having four-bay side (south) elevation, and crenellated two-storey extensions to rear (west) and side (north). Hipped slate roof with timber clad overhanging eaves, rendered chimneystack and uPVC rainwater goods. Rendered crenellated parapets, concealing bitumen roofs to extensions. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls throughout. Diminishing square-headed window openings with tooled limestone sills throughout, having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to first floor and nine-over-nine pane timber sliding sash windows to ground floor. Elliptical-headed door opening with raised render reveal, timber fluted pilasters set on limestone plinths and having carved console brackets, flanking timber panelled door with spoked fanlight above. Approached by steps. Two-storey rubble stone outbuilding with pitched slate roof to west of site. Set within own grounds.

Much character has been retained in this early nineteenth-century house, with its unevenly-spaced windows and centrally-placed door making for an interesting front elevation. The south elevation forms a long horizontal façade when viewed at the entrance to the driveway and the north elevation may have once acted as the front elevation. Set on an elevated site, this fine house makes a notable contribution to the surrounding landscape.
