St Helen's Church of Ireland Church

Ruinous remains of freestanding double-height Church of Ireland church, built c.1820, altered and renovated c.1890, comprising four-bay nave, bowed apse to east, porch to west and vestry to north elevation. Roof now absent. Rendered walls with rubble stone walls exposed to north elevation. Paired pointed arch window openings with chamfered stone sills throughout, having triple pointed arch opening to north elevation of nave, single-light round-headed window openings to chancel all having cut limestone block-and-start surrounds. Round-headed door opening to porch with cut limestone surround and with carved impost blocks. Camber-headed door opening to vestry with cut limestone block-and-start surround. Set back from road within disused graveyard with rubble stone enclosing walls, having square-profile rubble stone piers to front of site having cut limestone caps.

Set back from the road in its own grounds, this now ruinous church, adds architectural and social interest to the area. The work of skilled craftsmen is visible in its finely carved window and door surrounds. Its extensive graveyard provides a valuable repository of memories and is a local history resource.
