Bride Bridge

Five-arch limestone road bridge over River Bride, built c. 1790. Rubble stone walls and parapets with render copings. Dressed stone voussoirs to round arches, and cut stone V-cutwaters surmounted by concrete buttresses to west elevation also acting to support pipe. Dressed snecked stonework to underside of arches. Evidence for widening of bridge towards west.

This substantial, hump-back bridge is solidly constructed with rubble limestone walls. The bridge was widened, probably in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. The dressings and V-cutwaters are finely carved and add further interest to the structure. The bridge serves as a reminder of the quality of the engineering skills in the late eighteenth, early nineteenth century.
