According to Sheil (1920, 118) Borrmount was originally called Dromagh, and a sea captain named Borr built a house c. 1650 overlooking the N-S River Slaney. Neither Borr nor Dromagh are mentioned in Clonmore parish in the Civil Survey (1654-6) (Simington 1953, 220-1). Borrmount House is described as in ruins on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and was situated at the crest of the slope down to the River Slaney, which is c. 140m to the E. Birmount House (sic) is described as the deserted mansion of the Leeson family (Lewis 1837, vol. 1, 373). There are no visible remains of any structure.
