What is recorded here

Dungooly is a quiet bawn in County Louth, Ireland. Wright drew it in 1758 with a tower house and arched gateway, but no trace remains above ground. The stones may still lie beneath the soil, waiting for rain or memory to reveal them.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Illustration by Wright (1758, bk II, pl. 10) shows a possible tower house (LH003-007001-) and an arched gateway into a bawn (CLAJ 1912, 19-20). No visible surface trace.
