Dundrum once held a large bawn belonging to an O'Dwyer castle, but no remains are certain enough to point at the exact spot. In the 1650s it was already wanted for repair, suggesting age, pride and neglect rather than new building. The earth may still hide its line beneath grass, garden or road, keeping the castle's boundary alive in loss.

Unable to locate any remains of a bawn associated with an O'Dwyer castle (TS052-044001-) and described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as 'on the lands afforesayd a Castle and a large Bawne in Dondroma wantinge repaire' (Simington 1934 vol. 2, 87-8).
