Barrow

'This barrow lies in a field of reclaimed grassland on a ridge in the foothills of the Slieve Mish mountains, which affords superb views in all directions. This site has now all but been obliterated, and is visible as little more than a cropmark. It is almost circular, measuring 23.0m N-S by 21.0m E-W, although the eastern side of this site has been almost completely destroyed. Remains of a central platform can be seen, 0.10m in height and 12.0m in diameter. This is surrounded by a ditch, 2.50m in average width and is 0.01m below the level of the platform. This ditch is visible as a dark green ring of grass. Enclosing this is the remains of a bank 0.01m in height and averaging 3.00m in width. The crest of this bank is 0.01m above the bottom of the ditch. It is unlikely that any trace of this site will survive the intensive agriculture carried out on this farm, as this ring barrow has now been almost completely obliterated. Any further attempted reclamation of this field, which is still a little marshy and wet, will remove the last traces of this site.' A ring-barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age; its location on a prominent ridge suggests it was a significant funerary and possibly ceremonial site.
