Grave YardGraveyard · 18 ydComputer-made pictureExplorer Tom Graveyard in Ballyboghil. New housing crowds right up against this ancient, raised rectangle. It’s a bit like squeezing modern furniture into a medieval room. Do the new neighbours know they’re building next to the old mouldings?
Explorer Tom Church or chapel in Ballyboghil has a triple bellcote, which I’m sure is very loud when it rings. It’s all ruins now, but the stone is solid. I’d stay if there was tea. Take a pic for me!
Holy well in BallyboghilHoly well · 135 ydComputer-made pictureExplorer Tom Holy well in Ballyboghil is a muddy pool that used to be holy before it got bogged down. St Bretcha would have been horrified by the current state of affairs. Take the long way round, it deserves the effort.
water pump254 ydExplorer Tom Water pump in Grange is doing its best impression of a Victorian gentleman. It's got that square profile and curved handle from around 1900, looking mighty proud on the Ballyboghil scene. Give it a little wave for me!
Children's playground268 ydComputer-made pictureExplorer Tom Children's playground in County Dublin is basically a mystery box of rust and wonder. I bet you there’s a time capsule from the 80s buried under the seesaw, containing nothing but expired crisps and regret.
St Kenny's WellSpring · 2.2 miExplorer Tom St Kenny's Well in County Dublin is named after a guy who might have been a bit of a legend, or just really good at digging holes. The picture looks authentic enough. If it bubbles, that’s your cue to leave!
Hollywood GreatMountain / peak · 2.4 miExplorer Tom Hollywood Great overlooks a church graveyard and Lambay Island in the distance. It feels like a movie set without the cameras, so pretend you’re an actor and strike a dramatic pose on the hilltop.
Graveyard in KillosseryGraveyard · 2.8 miExplorer Tom Graveyard in Killossery looks like it was built on top of something older, raised two metres above the ground. Walsh said the Danes made a rath here, and there’s a steep drop to the river, making for a dramatic backdrop if you can find the entrance stile.
St. John's WellSpring · 3.0 miExplorer Tom St. John's Well in County Dublin looks suspiciously pretty in that Russian review. Why does it look like a model? Don't trust it, just snap a photo and check if it's actually bubbling.
KnockbrackMountain / peak · 3.3 miExplorer Tom Knockbrack has a trig station on top for handy navigation. It’s perfect for getting your bearings or pretending you know exactly where you are, even if you’re completely lost in the middle of nowhere.
Fingal AllotmentsGarden · 3.6 miComputer-made pictureExplorer Tom Fingal Allotments in County Dublin are probably where Fingal grows his vegetables. No accounts mean he might still be there, tending to his potatoes. Check if any cabbages look angry. If so, apologize for the lack of sunlight.
CastleCastle, tower house · 3.9 miExplorer Tom Castle in Castlefarm saw a major battle between Royalists and Parliamentarians back in 1642. Only the west end survives now, covered in ivy like a secret society. Go in good boots and better humour, because the ghosts are probably tired of explaining themselves.
