Ballintubbrid Lodge

Detached three-bay two-storey central block with single-bay single-storey wings connecting to single-bay single-storey pavilions, built c. 1790, having single-bay two-story flat-roofed return to rear (north) elevation, and recent flat-roofed single-bay single-storey glazed extension to front elevation of east wing. Hipped slate roofs to main block and pavilions, lean-to corrugated fibre roof to west wing, flat roof to east wing. Rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls, rubble stone walls to pavilions with arched niches having limestone sills. Square-headed openings with timber sliding sash windows, six-over-six pane to front (south) elevation, and six-over-six and two-over-two pane to rear elevation. Timber and steel-framed casement windows to rear elevation. Round-headed opening with nine-over-six pane timber sliding sash window to rear elevation. Pedimented square-headed door opening to front elevation with Doric pilasters and entablature, having timber panelled door with carved architrave. Square-headed openings with half-glazed timber battened doors to rear elevation. Yard to rear with recent outbuildings, having rubble stone boundary walls with square-profile piers and cast-iron double-leaf gates. Yard to rear of yard with rendered square-profile pier and wrought-iron double-leaf gates. Circular plan pond with rendered walls and curved benches to front of site. Rendered square-profile piers and wrought-iron double-leaf gates to site entrance.

Tall windows and central doorcase typical of rural Irish Georgian house. Here, part of a Palladian arrangement, with single-storey pavilions forming pleasing symmetrical arrangement. Retains much fabric including roof slates and timber sash windows. One of several large houses in this area of good farmland.
