Annafarney Bridge

Single-arch stone road bridge, built c.1850, spanning Annalee River. Scotch coping to east parapet and rounded rendered coping elsewhere. Roughly-coursed rubble stone spandrels and parapets. Quarry faced V-jointed cut stone voussoirs to segmental-headed arch on tall piers, with plinth courses to arch piers. Random rubble-stone soffit and abutments. Angled approach roads and rubble-stone wing walls.

The approach roads to the bridge afford good views of its elevations, allowing it to make an eyecatching historic addition to the local rural landscape. It has a robust expression with extensive use of rubble stone construction, while the cut stone voussoirs demonstrate more precise construction. The bridge is typical of its time, with its simple construction and use of local materials combining to create a well balanced composition suited to its rural setting.
