This commemorative plaque records: William Nichol, martyr. Burnt at the stake 'for the truth' on April 9th 1558.
William Nichol was a Protestant martyr burnt at the stake in 1558 during Queen Mary I's reign for refusing to renounce his faith. His execution exemplifies the religious persecution of Protestants under "Bloody Mary."
