Don Guillen de Lamport y Guzman was born in Wexford, Ireland, between 1611 and 1615. He claimed to be a bastard son of King Philip III of Spain, making him the half-brother of King Philip IV. In 1642, he attempted to foment rebellion against the Spanish crown with the aid of black and Indigenous peoples, but was denounced and arrested. He languished in the Inquisition jail for 17 years before being sentenced to death in Mexico City in 1659.
