Well in Gowran

Well

What is recorded here

One cannot drop a pin on the lost Brewery Well, yet that absence preserves the memory of clean water flowing through Gowran long after most towns forgot how wells worked. The missing point becomes a chamber where imagination builds its own roof, sets its own stairs, and drinks without asking permission.
According to Drennan (1965, 55), there was a brewery (KK020-060020-) S of St Mary’s parish church (KK020-060006-) and near it a covered well, known as the Brewery Well. The well supplied the town with water until the 1960s and continued to supply Gowran Castle (ibid.). The precise location of the well is unknown.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
