Weir

Described by O’Sullivan et al. (2010) as follows: ‘Just south east of post alignment D25 on Deer Island, a line of stakes was discovered. However, it is much later than these Iron Age structures. Surveying revealed it to be c. 6m in length and to consist of at least 12 stakes. This line ran perpendicular to the shore from NE to SW. The stakes cross a small creek, about 1 to 1.5m in width. It is similar to the lines of stakes at Deenish Island and Ing shore, which were also fishweirs. A sample taken was identified as alder. This returned a date of Cal.
