Weir is a post-and-wattle fish fence in County Limerick, still visible in estuarine clays when the tide pulls back. Its twenty-five-length frame probably dates to the Post-medieval period, when local people relied on river catches and reused strong timber wherever water gave it up. The clays have buried most joints and smoothed the posts, yet the fence still marks a line of human patience: build, lose, rebuild, and eat.
