Weir in Athy, at Coneyburrow, makes an L in the river and no longer matches the old maps. Even the water has been given Irish directions: straight down, turn at the weir, and if you reach where the weir used to be, you’ve gone wrong.
River weir, c. 1920, on L-shaped plan. The configuration of this weir is now different to that shown on early twentieth-century Ordnance Survey maps. It may have been rebuilt during Barrow drainage works or in conjuction with railway bridge overhead.
