Marianne touched the wedge tomb in Crossard and remembered red clay under her nails. She had carried soil from three counties before the jar felt complete. The dead girl in the story gave her one rule: return before dark or stop asking questions. Marianne ran home through the rain and kept the jar on the windowsill where it belonged.

Wedge tomb; dates to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–1000 BC). These tombs are characteristic of Ireland's megalithic tradition and represent an important phase in the development of burial practices and social organisation in prehistoric Ireland.
