What is recorded here

Freestanding cast-iron water pump, installed c.1880, now disused. Banded base, fluted neck, cap missing, having curved pumping handle. Located in recess at road side.
Located on the roadside opposite Rusheen National School, this pump forms an important part of the area's historic character. Water pumps such as this once played an important social and functional role providing a communal water source. The appearance of this functional object is enlivened by its carefully designed cast detailing.
