Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1870, and still in use. Comprising fluted cylindrical shaft with domed cap and replacement tap. Set on roadside pavement.
This cast-iron water pump contributes to the streetscape. The deeply-fluted casting provides artistic detail and enlivens this functional object. The survival of the water pump in its original location and its continuous use is of social importance.
