Freestanding cast-iron water hydrant, erected c.1870. Circular-profile with fluted cast-iron shaft, moulded base and fluted domed cap with acorn finial.
This water hydrant is an attractive and well-executed item of street furniture that has been enlivened through the use of various decorative flourishes. It is an important reminder of the times before the widespread provision of piped water supply.
