Water mill

On the banks of Clybaun Stream to N of Gentian Hill on W outskirts of Galway city. Discovered during drainage work in 1971, the remains consisted of c. 20 pieces of timber from a horizontal mill, including parts of the frame and uprights of the building, two water chutes, and a bung. A sample from the timber produced a 14C determination of c. AD 600 (Topgr. Files, NMI and UCG).
