Vent pipe in Bredagh has spent over a century passing itself off as a street lamp while quietly airing the sewers. That’s a fierce stretch to keep a lie going. Even the family would be saying, ‘He’s in lighting.’
Cast-iron sewer vent pipe, erected c.1870, comprising a fluted base, plan shaft with crown head.
This vent pipe mimics the design of mid-nineteenth century cast-iron lamp standards and is of technical significance. It blends in well with the urban environment and forms part of the street furniture of Church Street.
