Single track former railway tunnel, built 1902, now in use as walkway. Flat concrete and red brick roof. Concrete wall to west. Arcaded red and yellow brick wall to east having rusticated limestone quoins. Segmental-headed openings to arcade having yellow brick soffits, red brick voussoirs and piers. Square-headed entrance openings to north and south. Recent metal railings to arcade openings. Set between roadside and waterway.

As part of the train line running from Cork to Monkstown this tunnel was used for thirty years, until the line closure on 10th September 1932. It retains fine brick and stone work, a testament to the craftsmen involved in its construction. Built using a process known as cut and cover, a trench was cut and an arch built over it and then the arch was covered with excavated material. The tunnel is still locally known as the "Cut and Cover". Waste material from the construction was used to build the Sand Quay at Monkstown.
